Crisis on the Southern Border

By: Dr. Jay Kinzler

There is a crisis at our southern border because we don’t have adequate barriers preventing illegals from entering our country.

I took care of a patient from Guatemala last week and asked him what the immigration situation was like in Guatemala. He told me many Guatemalans are staying home but he sees many Africans, Asians and Middle Easterners traveling through his neighborhood streets heading north to Mexico then on to the US.

In February, the Trump administration declared a national emergency to reprogram $2.5 billion in Defense Department funds intended for anti-drug activities to build the southern border wall to protect Americans.

On Friday, Obama appointee U.S. District Court Judge Haywood Gilliam in Oakland, California said in a pair of court decisions that the Trump administration's proposal to transfer Defense Department funds intended for anti-drug activities was unlawful to use toward building the wall.

One of Gilliam's rulings was in a lawsuit filed by California on behalf of 20 states, while the other was in a case brought by the American Civil Liberties Union in coordination with the Sierra Club and the Southern Border Communities Coalition.

Why do these groups want to stop Trump from making it harder to keeping criminals, smugglers, drugs and terrorists out of our country.

Trump will appeal the Obama’s Judge ruling.
